Hirotsugu Koike, Senior Adviser

Hirotsugu Koike is a Senior Adviser at the Global Policy Initiative. He is also professor with the School of Policy Studies at Kwansei Gakuin University (since April 2009). Since he joined Nikkei in 1974, he had held a number of positions, including staff writer for macroeconomic policies, Singapore bureau chief (1985-89), Washington bureau chief (1993-97), senior writer for international affairs (1997-98), foreign news editor (1998-03), editor-in-chief of The Nikkei Weekly and Nikkei Net Interactive (2003-04), editorial writer (2004-05), president of Nikkei Europe (2005-08), and deputy chief editorial writer (2008-09). He is currently board member of Policy Studies Association Japan and life-time member of Clare Hall, Cambridge. Mr. Koike was vice president at the National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA) (2000-06), a member of the Study Group on Asia and US-Japan Scurity Rlations at the Cuncil on Foreign Relations (1994-97). His recent publications include A Comparison of Policy Making Process between US and Japan (1999), A New Framework for Asia-Pacific Cooperation (1993), and New Thinking for the 21st Century (1993). He holds a B.A. in Economics from Yokohama National University.
